Energy Market Pricing Trends for the Month of July 2021

Monthly Pricing Trends

July 2021

Natural gas saw a steady increase in rates for both index and regulated rate option (RRO) in July. Various factors such as heat waves, storage concerns and fluctuations in demand combined to produce this overall gradual increase in natural gas prices.

Electricity saw a very sharp rise for customers on index and a small, but favorable, dip for those on RRO. This was mainly due to heat waves and unplanned generation loss. The Consumer Price Index also jumped up to 3.7% in Alberta for the month of July with electricity specifically scaling up by +21.1%.
